In From the Left: Strategic Cognition, Ra Uru Hu explores the cognitive architecture of the Left-oriented mind. This 5-lecture audio course, originally taught live in Spring 2009, offers an in-depth investigation into Strategic cognition and the role it plays in the evolution of human awareness. Through the Variable grid, Ra reveals the mechanics of Leftness and the unique contribution Strategic individuals are designed to bring to the evolving field of human consciousness.
An informative resource for enthusiasts, students, and professionals seeking a deeper understanding of the nuances of Leftness, this course lays out the structure, focus themes, and Variable Families of the Strategic mind. It concludes with the dilemmas found at the center of the Variable grid. Ra goes in depth about two in particular, Variables PLRDLR and PLRDRL.
In this 5-lecture audio course by Ra Uru Hu, you will:
From the Left: Strategic Cognition explores the mechanics of the Strategic mind—how it focuses, processes, and engages with life in comparison to the passive, receptive Right. Through Ra’s clear and layered teachings, you’ll gain insight into the active nature of the Left mind and its role in shaping thought, strategy, and consciousness.
This 5 lesson course (audio + screen recording of Ra’s classroom presentation + illustrated ebook transcript) is now available for $117 (regularly $197) until April 13th. In addition, you will receive The Left: The Traps of History, a 90-minute lecture (value: $47) where Ra explains Strategic Leftness, the dominant approach that has given us an evolutionary advantage up to this point in our history.
Whether you're Left minded yourself, or simply curious, this course offers a detailed look at how focused cognition contributes to overall human awareness.
“The beauty within the context of Human Design is that we’re here to fulfill uniquely our differentiation so that we can express our unique detail, our unique outer authority. There’s something magical about focus. Focus becomes a matrix. The moment you have found your focus, you see so many things. The moment you find your focus, no matter what it is, you learn so many things about the nature of the world. It is the extraordinary thing about it. You don't miss anything out there in the diversity because you find its flavor is in your focus; the continuity that is there in the microcosm.”

Learn the three strategic Focusing themes using the Variable map: detail orientation, deep absorption in the new, and circumstantial assessment. This lesson explains how the strategic mind conceptualizes and filters reality—laying a foundation for how Left-oriented cognition is built to focus, adapt, and respond.
Ra unpacks the most strategic quadrant of the Variable grid, showing how it prepares mental tools for a receptive future. Learn how strategic minds interact with the Right, and how this quadrant fits into the wider consciousness field through interconnected awareness and relationship development.
This “most human” quadrant reveals a deeply personal, nonevolutionary role in our cognitive development. Ra explores how this strategic Variable family contributes to collective intelligence and how individuals with it can fully live out their uniqueness in a rapidly changing world.
At the center of the Variable grid are four Variables with themes of dilemma and confusion. Ra examines two (PLRDLR and PLRDRL), highlighting their built-in inner conflicts. Learn simple and effective strategies for working with these Variables—especially vital for moving beyond the Not-Self and into aligned decision making.

Ra was born Alan (Robert) Krakower in Montreal, Canada on April 9, 1948, (at 00:05 am) and spent his early years there. After he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, his career path led him into the business world as an advertising executive, magazine publisher, and media producer. The arts were important to Ra, and he expressed himself as a composer and performer throughout his life. In 1983, he left Canada to travel, eventually finding his way to the island of Ibiza, where he spent years working as a school teacher.
In January 1987, he had an unusual mystical experience followed by an encounter with “a Voice,” an intelligence far superior to anything he had ever experienced. This encounter lasted for eight days and nights during which he received a transmission of information—including what is known today as the “Human Design System.”
Ra dedicated the next 25 years of his life to the development and teaching of the System around the world. Together with his family, he lived in the United States, Germany, and for most of the time on Ibiza, Spain where he passed away in March, 2011.
